What Is It Like To Live in The Emerald City?
…Depends on where you’re living exactly. If you rent an apartment in Seattle in the downtown area you’ll be among trendy boutiques and government offices. There’s no shortage of eateries and art galleries either. Meanwhile, Chinatown Seattle has a different flair. It’s undeniably diverse, with many different cultures being represented. There’s obviuosly Chinese resdients, but also Cmabodian, Filipino, and Korean. Specialty shops, unique cuisine, and Asian markets can all be found in this area.

Regardless of where you live in Seattle, it’s a charming place with lots of history. Seattle, Washington has the distinction of being home to the headquarters of Starbucks Coffee. The original store opened in Pike Place Market in 1971 by an english teacher, a history teacher, and a writer. It is one of several major Fortune 500 Companies, like the internet retail giant Amazon.com, that are based in Seattle.

The city hosts major sports franchises like the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Mariners, and the Seattle Sounders. And, Seattle’s mild weather allows for fun outdoor recreational activities. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and experience in Seattke!

Seattle Nicknames…What Do They Mean?

  • The Rainy City- because of it’s frequent rain and cloudy days throughout the year. Oddly enough, Seattle gets less rain that New York, Atlanta, and Houston each year.
  • The Gateway to Alaska- It’s becoming the choice icty for embarking on Alaskan cruises.
  • The Jet City- So-called because Boeing, the global aerospace manufacturer, was once based in Seattle, WS.

  • At 600 feet high, the Space Needle was built to stand up to 200 miles per hour winds and earthquakes.
  • There are 848 steps from the Space Needle’s basement to the Observation Deck.
