Seattle has been called a “city of neighborhoods,” with residents from all around the city building strong ties and developing firm allegiances to their individual communities. Neighborhoods include suburban areas dedicated to green space and families and downtown districts that cater to young professionals.

University Village
If you are attending classes at the University of Washington or have just graduated from college, University Village will meet all your student/young professional needs. Located just north of downtown and close to Lake Washington, the village is full of cafes, bars and boutiques. Residents also enjoy the local farmers market, which is the largest farmers-only market in the city, and the annual May U District Street Fair.
Redmond
Located on the east side of Seattle, Redmond is home to the headquarters of Microsoft, as well as plenty of highly ranked schools and green space. The neighborhood sits just north of Lake Sammamish and is known for its large number of bike trails.
Bellevue
Although it lies just 10 miles east of Seattle, Bellevue is the fifth largest city in Washington. It is also an educational haven, as it is the only city in the country to have five high schools listed in the U.S. News Top 100 High Schools in the country. With amenities like Mercer Slough Nature Park, Overlake Golf Country Club and immediate access to I-405 and I-90, Bellevue is perfect for families and commuting professionals.
Queen Anne
One of the most spectacular views of Seattle’s signature Space Needle comes from the Queen Anne neighborhood, which sits just northwest of downtown. The area has a thriving unique arts scene with staples such as Queen Anne Books, Hilltop Yarn, Bouncing Wall and tons of boutiques. From Queen Anne, you have easy bus access downtown and are also just a few minutes from Fort Lawton and Discovery Park.
Kirkland
Just across I-405 from Redmond is Kirkland, a family- and pedestrian-friendly area with lots of park and recreational opportunities. Kirklanders also revel in their easy access to Lake Washington, with several dedicated green spaces sitting directly on the water, including Juanita Bay Park, a favorite of local residents.
Freemont
Across Salmon Bay from Queen Anne and on the other side of I-5 from University Village is Freemont, an art-focused area full of vintage stores, galleries and music studios. Additionally, residents enjoy the Freemont Sunday Market, Woodland Park and Green Lake
